Opinion

From Library Staff

This Israeli TV series, PRISONERS OF WAR, inspired the creation of Showtime's HOMELAND series. It's the story of 3 Israeli soldiers kidnapped and held as POWs for 17 years. Riveting and heavy at times.

Season 1 Disc 1

Very emotional, and then intriguing. I had a good chuckle when they deciphered the code!
This series is nothing like Homeland, and I think better. No car crashes or big explosions though, at least not yet, so if that's what your looking for, stick to Homeland.

Watched the two Facility episodes Dec 20 and 21....the first on and off while making turkey dinner and the second one started at about 1:45am after taking Mom back to the Lodge.

Season 1 Disc 2

Dec 21 2015....4:30am! Letters to Mom: Had me in tears, and then the ending....I'm hooked. I'm enjoying the music in this show as well. I was thinking how the piano sounds the same in Hebrew as it does in English!
I'm also enjoying getting to see a bit of Israel. I'm not much of a traveller, so this is great for me. They seem to eat a lot of salad there. No roast beef, or turkey....hmm, I'd miss that, but I'd probably be healthier. I wonder what passes for junk food there.....besides pizza!

Season 1 Disc 3

Watched 1st episode on Feb 5, then put in Disc 2 and reatlized I had missed 3 episodes on that Disc, so then watched the Second episode on Disc 2. Feb 6 Watched the last 2 episodes on Disc 2 and then the last 2 episodes on Disc 3. Riveting, and don't miss the interview with Gideon Raff at the end.

In my opinion, this is a must see story. It is eye opening in the sense that one would think returning home after years of captivity would be easy, not so. Can't wait for season 2, coming soon.

I am conflicted. I love Homeland and Prisoners Of War. Yet they are two different shows as this doesn't have the "star" egos. When you go back and check Raff's career he seems to think women are nagging whiners. In every show, from 13 yo girls to 80 year olds. He has some issues

Riveting. Brilliant. Homeland is nowhere near in the same league.

So much better in so many ways than Homeland. This series has depth, social comment, a subtle script, sharp editing and fine acting. Need I say more?
