Captain John Smith leaves the Jamestown fort to explore and trade with the Indians, but he is captured. Princess Pocahontas asks her father to spare Smith's life and they fall in love. When he returns to Jamestown, he finds the people starving. Pocahontas brings supplies, but while saving the English, she falls in disgrace with her people. When the Indians realize that the English will not leave their country, they attack. After a bloody battle, the English trade Pocahontas and lodge her in the fort to protect their families. With the return of Captain Newport, Smith is promoted and sent back to England. He asks a friend to tell Pocahontas that he drowned during the trip. Pocahontas is civilized and baptized by the English and John Rolfe proposes and marries her. Many years later, she hears that Captain Smith is alive, and she has to decide if she keeps her marriage or follows her heart.

A big sluggish and heavy in the middle, but the gorgeous scenery helps move it along. There isn't much talking, so you need to be watching closely, which isn't for everyone.

The bittersweet story of the English exploration of Virginia.

We have all seen the Disney Animation, Pocahontas but this is an incredible new take on an old story. The soundtrack is hypnotizing, the scenery mesmerizing and the acting captivating. This is a must see.

This gorgeous production tells the familiar story of Pocahontas and John Smith, and with it the founding of the Jamestown colony with a heart-rending lead performance by Q’orianka Kilcher as Pocahontas. With a lush soundtrack filled with classical music, it’s almost too easy to immerse yourself in the film’s dreamy aesthetics. Some viewers may find its slow pace and lack of conventional action dull, though many will undoubtedly find it enchanting.

Having seen 3 Malick movies now, I think I have his number. I agree with everyone who was bored. He manages to make even an exciting premise, like Pocahontas going to London, tedious in the extreme. In every film he has a tic of cutting away to stock footage of birdies warbling in the trees-- I get it, Earth is an Eden and naughty Man (Old World Man that is) has turned it into a viper's nest of strip malls (where they have sense enough not to show movies like this one). His use of music is very distracting (besides being mawkish) to those who recognize the sources. What Wagner's Ring or the music of Mozart have to do with this story is a mystery. Zero stars.

Stupendous. People who find it too boring and slow should just watch Transformers. Amazing performance by Q'orianka Kilcher. A beautiful meditation on love and the founding of the United States. One of the last great movies by Terrence Malick before he gave up on scripts completely.

Do not waste your time watching this movie!!!!! Paint dries faster than this film unfolds. You will scratch your head every minute of this film wondering why you are still watching it. You will clap at the end, because its finally over. 0/5

This is a 2005 British-American historical drama written and directed by Terrence Malick.
Set in 1607, Pocahontas---the spirited and adventurous daughter of Chief Powhatan---and others from her tribe witness the arrival of three ships sent by English royal charter to found a colony in the New World.
Aboard one of the ships is Captain John Smith, below decks, in chains.
While initially sentenced to death by hanging for his mutinous remarks, once ashore, Smith is pardoned by Captain Christopher Newport, the leader of the expedition.
This film depicts the founding of the Jamestown, Virginia, settlement and inspired by the historical figures Captain John Smith, Pocahontas of the Powatan Native American tribe, and Englishman John Rolfe.
Although it is in an epic-scale, the storyline appears sluggish, underdramatized and emotionally remote.

Pocahontas: Mother, where do you live? In the sky? The clouds? The sea? Show me your face. Give me a sign. We rise... we rise. Afraid of myself. A god, he seems to me. What else is life but being near you? Do they suspect? Oh, to be given to you. You to me. I will be faithful to you. True. Two no more. One. One. I am... I am.
