Coe is one of the few remaining teenagers on the island of Tides. Deformed and weak, she is constantly reminded that in a world where dry land dwindles at every high tide, she is not welcome. The only bright spot in her harsh and difficult life is the strong, capable Tiam--but love has long ago been forgotten by her society. The only priority is survival.

Until the day their King falls ill, leaving no male heir to take his place. Unrest grows, and for reasons Coe cannot comprehend, she is invited into the privileged circle of royal aides. She soon learns that the dying royal is keeping a secret that will change their world forever.

Is there an escape from the horrific nightmare that their island home has become? Coe must race to find the answers and save the people she cares about, before their world and everything they know is lost to the waters.

Drowned by Nichola Reily was a futuristic book. Coe, a girl with a deformity called scribblers bait, lives with four hundred and ninety-six people as they watch the tides become higher and higher throughout the night. Let me fill you in: scribblers bait is what everyone calls you if you are useless to the group. Oh yeah did I forget to mention the world is ending? People dying everyday and the only thing Coe can do is survive and stay alive. No king to rule the land, no rules, something's bound to happen and it isn't going to be good. It was such a thrilling book because it made you get goosebumps every time you kept reading on. I rate this book five out of five stars, it was that good; one of the best I have ever read.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I will definitely be reading other books by this author. The writing got a bit scattered towards the end, but I think that enhances the overall helplessness of the ending. Can't wait for the sequel!

An interesting take on a futuristic novel. The plot seemed a little bland to me, but the main character made the read enjoyable. There were also some twists in the end that I didn't foresee, which was a nice surprise.

The romance is mild, with 2 kissing scenes.

Overall, I give it about 3.9 stars.

Another world ending, time is running out, secrets and romance. For the most part I enjoyed the writing style, the characters and the plot. Once in awhile something didn't add up, or didn't sound plausible. More than a few times I questioned the author's thinking especially towards the end. Will I read the sequel? Probably not.
