Authors Dan Quillen and Dr. Lance Farr have written an easy to follow book on how to Use Social Media to Find Your Dream Job! The authors explain why it is no longer enough to simply apply for jobs and how a successful job search involves using social media to encourage the recruiters to come to you. Used effectively, social media can help you find jobs not available elsewhere, make contacts, network and create a place to showcase your expertise.

The authors walk you through the process of creating a social media presence.

Most important is building a LinkedIn profile, which has become today’s resume. In addition to being a platform for your online resume, LinkedIn is a source of job listings and an invaluable resource of networking contacts in your industry.

Twitter is yet another opportunity to add to the network you use for your job search. Use it to follow companies you are interested in working for.

G+ is an interest-based social network owned and operated by Google which has the potential to serve as another powerful job search tool. Be sure to use the same profile picture and message as you used in your LinkedIn and Twitter profiles to further your brand.

Quillen and Farr recommend that you clean up your Facebook page, as potential recruiters may access it to judge what kind of person you are.

The book also includes advice on how to showcase your expertise by blogging and creating web pages, using the Internet to obtain company information and e-mail as an additional networking tool.
