"After viewing this provocative documentary, you will never look at Wikipedia the same way. Filmmakers Scott Glosserman and Nic Hill engagingly explore the history and cultural implications of one of the most traveled and referenced sites on the Internet. A whole range of opinion is expressed about the impact of Wikipedia on the archiving of learning, from interviews with founder Jimmy Wales to commentators suspicious of the site's supposed neutrality. The documentary delves into the EssJay controversy in which a Wikipedian made false claims about his academic credentials and the battle over journalist John Seigenthaler's inaccurate entry. Evenhandedly weaving multiple perspectives about the impact of Wikipedia, the film provokes a deeper conversation on how knowledge is formed and what future generations will learn about history and the world."--Container.

This movie pretends to show a balanced perspective on Wikipedia. However, I think it's clear that filmmakers Scott Glosserman and Nic Hill are in favor of this online information system with 11 million articles in 270 languages (at the time of the film's making). I'm OK with their bias because I too am a fan of this open source internet resource. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales really holds his own when faced with a barrage of criticism from people who claim that experts should be writing the material on Wikipedia. I say, power to the people. Who decides who the experts are anyway? Yes, Wikipedia contains errors, but it is ever evolving and, hopefully, ever improving. Jimmy is in good company when Howard Zinn is interviewed and, in essence, supports what Wikipedia is trying to do. Other critics come across as whiny, narrow-minded thinkers. Yes, even Noam Chomsky comes across as a grumpy old man trapped in 20th century ways of thinking and communicating information/knowledge.

Bad (slow) editing at the beginning & the end — but stick with it. "TRUTH IN NUMBERS" gets at some good, worthwhile stuff. It's a solid & skeptical view of Wikipedia and how "truthy" it is (rather than actually getting at "what we know now"). The founder, Jimmy Wales, comes off as an unmitigated, egotistical *sshole. The documentary made me want to avoid Wikipedia as much as possible. WORTHWHILE.
