The Guardians of the Galaxy as they should be written. Ignore anything written by the current writer of the series, Brian Michael Bendis, who has proven himself over and over to be the worst writer in the industry. This is by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, who for some years had a big hand in cosmic events going on in the Marvel universe (things that were routinely overlooked by the marketing division at Marvel). They took the name of a future based team from years earlier and gave it to a band of misfits and rogues that had already come together during some of those cosmic events. This is the first volume of their outstanding run with these characters, and the foundation of the team that would appear in the movie. Star-Lord leads a team to deal with matters of galactic concern from their home base, and things get complicated from there. Abnett and Lanning's writing is just right, emphasizing strong characterization. They're backed up with ideal artists capable of rendering the void of space and fantastic worlds in the right way.
