This is a black comedy of an actor who is famous for portraying a superhero while he struggles with a Broadway play.

Best Supporting Actor nomination for Edward Norton.

One of the most innovative, popular films to come out in awhile. We get a glimpse at a washed up super hero actor trying to deal with his famous past while laboring on his comeback in a Broadway play. Amazing performances and stylistically visionary.

Well acted, but bizarre to watch. Despite his assertions otherwise, the movie absolutely feels like a self-critique of Michael Keaton's portrayal of Batman.

If you actually watch this movie, you'll have an opportunity to enjoy it.

A unique film in regard to its soundtrack - drummer Antonio Sanchez plays improvised drums to the score the film.

I am told I may have enjoyed this movie. I didn't get past 15 mins. without complaint from everyone else to put something else in.

Funny, weird, and dark. Love seeing Michael Keaton, one of my fave actors!! The whole cast is great as well!!

Directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu in 2014, this American black comedy depicts a life of Riggan Thomson (Keaton)---a faded Hollywood actor best known for playing the superhero "Birdman".
Althou it contains some black humours, this film seems like a flop because there exist so much confusion and nonsensical dialogues.

I liked the scene where the excellent actor Lindsay Duncan (playing a drama critic) tells the lead character why she will give his play a bad review. She tells him it's because he is not an actor but a celebrity who hasn't put in the time to study the craft of acting. Pretty much sums up how I feel about Hollywood stars who get a headshot and head out to the West Coast looking for work, without having gone to drama school, or maybe not even having been in a school play.

Thought this was really pretentious. I kept checking to see how many minutes were left on the disc. Also, there is something like a 25 year age gap between Michael Keaton and Andrea Risborough and yet she is supposed to have slept with him. Stop it, Hollywood. Just stop it.

Reminding me a lot of the show Bojack Horseman, this movie is about a star who wants to show the world he is still Hollywood material. He plans a risky acting job, but then a cast member is hurt, and he has to deal with his family. I liked this movie because of the humor and its deep exploration into 'ignorance'

stage vs hollywood!
dinosaur vs new-kid-on-the-block?
slick dolly shots (mostly from behind) & continuous camera movements (thru barriers or aerial), but way too repetitive, hence boring!
some pointed dialogs are well written & acted out that clearly out-beats woody allen!
what really matters is the inner self who speaks the loudest & acts the boldest?
cannot deny that this film has brought the extinct "stage films" to new heights.

One of the greatest films of the last decade. Stellar performances, with writing that must have been a joy for the actors to deliver. An absolute tour de force from writer-director Innaritu.

Whenever I need to be reminded that human beings have redeeming qualities, lol, I search out this film. It reminds me that being part of the human race is an enormous gift, which is something that in today's world can be easy to forget. 'Birdman' is imbued with joy from beginning to end.

This is an interesting film that operates on many levels. Great music, great cinematography, great casting and great courage of Keaton to take on this role. The play within the film is based on Raymond Carver's "What We Talk About When We Talk about Love". A very enjoyable experience.

Riggan: It's important to me! Alright?...

Sam: Means something to who? You had a career before the third comic book movie, before people began to forget who was inside the bird costume. You're doing a play based on a book that was written 60 years ago, for a thousand rich old white people whose only real concern is gonna be where they go to have their cake and coffee when it's over. And let's face it, Dad, it's not for the sake of art. It's because you want to feel relevant again. ... You're doing this because you're scared to death, like the rest of us, that you don't matter. And you know what? You're right. You don't. It's not important. You're not important. Get used to it.

Pages of quotes in IMDb:

[Riggan snaps fingers, and explosions occur, shooting starts, soldiers get shot, choppers fly and shoot, one gets shot down]

Young Birdman: That's what I'm talking about. Bones rattling! Big, loud, fast! Look at these people, at their eyes... they're sparkling. They love this shit. They love blood. They love action. Not this talky, depressing, philosophical bullshit.

Mike Shiner: Popularity is the slutty little cousin of prestige.
