An artists asks "how do I keep working?" and "How do I stay relevant?" - and Dave Grohl answers the questions and delivers more than what is promised. Choosing multiple cities to showcase their musical history and importance, while recording in some iconic studios in said cities not only entertains but informs. Using Billy Gibbons, Emmy Lou Harris et al for commentary seals the deal. A must watch for weekend bingers and lovers of music.

Solid documentary about the making of Foo Fighter's "Sonic Highways" record - 8 songs written and recorded in eight different American music "Meccas". Tons of interviews with assorted musicians and studio gurus, as well as some looks into how the respective cities' punk (and other music) scenes began. There's a very relaxed feel throughout, and Dave Grohl comes across as an ordinary average guy. I'd love to see the concept expanded on featuring cities around the world...

This DVD is what television was invented for. I watched everything on here, and wanted more! Dave Grohl is a genius for this one! Recommended to those who love music, fans of Nirvana, and people who enjoy the awesome history of music. Enjoy!

There is nothing 'sonic' about this highway. 3 hours of listening to egomaniacs blabbing with almost no actual music or 'sounds of the cities'.

I am a huge Dave Grohl Foo Fighters fan first of all because he was in one of my favorite bands ever Nirvana and i like a lot of the Foo Fighters albums over the years .this series i saw on Hbo when it came out late last year ,it was a wonderful show .I love any history series or shows on music movies etc. .as a muscian myself i can appreciate all the music being talked about some of the cities and muscians have influenced me and many other muscians all over the world. Dave and the band travel to 8 cities Chicago New Orleans Austin etc.the last two cities Seattle and NY being my favorites best footage of bands there music and interviews .the band recorded an album by recording songs in 8 cities and there studios in each town.the interviews with muscians singer guitar players etc from all over the country and footage of music legends like Johnny Cash Willie Nelson Stevie Ray Vaughn Jim Hendrix Kurt Cobain Elvis Presley Heart to name a few of many!I reccomend this dvd to anyone who loves watching the history of music movies pop culture etc.this would make a great series to educate children on music history I love it so much i bought a copy for home to watch.i'm sure any musician or lover of music will enjoy this series like i did!

I liked the idea...but felt that I had to accept the Foo Fighters as some great conduit through which all the types of American music had to flow through. The Foos are an OK arena-rock band, but not appropriate for many of the music styles covered.

Roots of punk from Dave Grohl's odyssey city by city. Washington DC is especially amazing. Dave and band play a soul summary song at the end of each city visit...Wow!
