The final book in the Shattered Sea trilogy has Yarvi and the surviving members of his group take on the Grandmother Wexen and the realm of the High King. The 'big reveal' of the series happens around the middle of the book, and it's a brilliant twist. I 'suspected' something like this might be the case, but after it was revealed, it left me hoping Abercrombie writes more books in this 'world'. Will there be a war with Jaroslav? If this is happening in the kingdoms of the Shattered Sea, whats happening in the rest of the world? We see how the 'elves' wiped themselves out (not spoiling), but how did the world forget who the 'elves' were? The author leaves a lot of room for another book, or even another trilogy. Hopefully he returns to the series someday.

If I had read this book on its own, without reading the first two, I probably would have rated it higher. It's still good, but I just wasn't as invested in the characters as I was in the first two books.

Finishing this one makes me a little sad as there's only two @lordgrimdark books left for me to read… I hope he's about to enter several years of frantic output!
This one was a beaut end to an outstanding #SwordsAndScorcery fantasy trilogy & written with excellent pace & solid characters. He writes action so well that I found myself wanting more battle scenes & more duelling - but that just would've detracted from the great plot & characters in all their flawed beauty! Abercrombie is right up there as one of the best & most rewarding finds of my #2015ReadingChallenge

Violence: Violence, and the consequences of violence, run throughout the book.

Raith saw knuckles white on sword hilts, heard the scrape as Soryorn eased his knife free of its sheath. He could smell the violence coming, far worse than he’d planned on. But there’s violence for you. It rarely keeps to the patch you mark out for it.
