Since the publication of her much-loved first book, Mindy Kaling's life has changed significantly. Back then, she played Kelly Kapoor, a supporting character on the popular series, The Office. Now Mindy is the creator, producer, writer, and star of her own TV show, The Mindy Project. She is, as she puts it, "a tiny bit famous," the perks of which include being three assistants, two phone calls and a really good lie away from obtaining Bradley Cooper's e-mail address and having convicts writing her fan mail from prison. She's gone through some other major changes as well--she's watched friends start their own families, and she's grappled with her own balance of work and private life. Mindy turns the anxieties, the glamour, the heartache, and the celebrations of her second coming of age into a laugh-out-loud funny collection of essays that anyone who's ever been at a turning point in their life or career can relate to. And those who've never been at a turning point can skip to the parts where she talks about meeting Bono, encountering Elmo, what kind of snacks they have at a Vogue photo shoot, and what you should carry in your purse when you go to the State Dinner honoring the president of France.

Mindy is funny, relatable and unapologetic. Listening to her audiobook feels a lot like giggling with the girls at happy hour.

I love listening to Mindy Kaling's audiobooks, because her voice is the best. This was cute and funny, though not quite as much to my taste as her last book. BUT. There was a joke about possums that had me laughing out loud.

FIRST: If you are listening to the downloadable audiobook, listen at 2X speed! There is this weird modulation in the audio on the default speed that indicates someone slowed Kaling's voice down in post, maybe thinking of listeners who need more time to process each word. But her delivery of the jokes in this book is really affected by the change in timing. Speeding it up to 2X will absolutely fix the joke timing and brings her delivery closer to the speed at which she normally speaks for an audience, which is pretty no-holds-barred rapid-fire.

Now, review of the book: Totally hilarious! A smart, unapologetic, brash, bold, joyful, romantic, and vulnerable peek into Mindy Kaling's life. Perfect for fans of her last book, her show The Mindy Project, and for anyone with an interest in Hollywood and the world of entertainment production.

Oh Mindy. I do love you and the Mindy Project, but this book just wasn't that interesting. I felt like there should have been more humor, and it was noticeably lacking. The part I paid the most attention to was the "Mindy Kaling alternate life in NY", which was basically a TV episode with the male lead as another Danny Castellano character (not that I'm complaining about that because I love Danny). This goes to show that the rest of the content of this memoir just wasn't that compelling or necessary. It may have been better to wait another few years to write another memoir. I'll still read anything in the future, but I will probably go in with lower expectations.

...I am influenced by a societal pressure to be thin...I feel it the same way anybody who picks up a magazine and sees Keira Knightley’s elegantly bony shoulder blades poking out of a backless dress does. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen my shoulder blades once. Honestly, I’m dubious that any part of my body could be so sharp and firm as to be described as a “blade.” ...even though I wish I could be thin, and that I could have the ease of lifestyle that I associate with being thin, I don’t wish for it with all of my heart. Because my heart is reserved for way more important things.

Who is the beauty icon that inspires you the most? ...Mine is Nosferatu, because that vampire taught me my number-one and number-two favorite beauty tricks of all time: avoid the sun at all costs and always try to appear shrouded in shadows.
