"Jane Bennett, senior Detective Sergeant for the murder squad at her London police precinct, is having a terrible day. Her boss, Detective Inspector Mike Lockyer, has just returned to work after two weeks on 'leave,' though Jane knows it was really more like a suspension ... But neither of them has the luxury of time to dwell on past grievances. Jane has just received a phone call from a good friend saying that her husband, Mark Leech, a retired policeman, has disappeared. When Jane finds dramatic blood splatters in the laundry room, she knows Mark is seriously injured at best, and they don't have any time to waste"-- Provided by publisher.

An adequate British Police procedural featuring a female detective who is a single mother, devoted to the job and it sweet on her boss. I was disturbed by her lack of attention to her autistic son (because of the demands of the job) and did not think that story line added to the book.

Good police detective story/thriller, not groundbreaking but the characters are interesting. It helps a LOT if you've read the first book "Never Look Back" to understand the references to the case in that book and the relationships among the Bennett and her supervisor Lockyer.

The modern female detective stereotype: single mother, disabled child, workaholic, in love with her boss. Too much of all that stuff.

Amazing read! Good follow up from the last book "Never Look Back". It was fast paced and left you in the dark on the killer till the very end, you won't see it coming.
