Being "Marked", something that Lyla thought she would never want, but after a fast change of events she found herself with three bright blue needle imprints on her wrist and not to upset about it. After her parents, who worked day in and day out in the mines had come home sick and where running low on "soothers" (medicine). Lyla decided to go to the latest "Shadow Market" (A place ran by Red Fists (a criminal gang) where they sell goods illegal kinda like the Black Market) and grab some "soothers" (medicine) for them. She also had her eyes on "Cheats" for her advanced class called the "Bright". She had earned her seat there fair and square but soon found out that keeping it was going to be hard work. While there she ran into an old friend and unfortunately the "Bluecoats" (The police). They raided the Shadow Market and this is how Lyla got her first Mark. The Officer who marked her, sent her a message saying to meet up. He told her that there could be a way to get "Scraped" and remove her mark but this is when everything changed. Her old friend the one she ran into, and later who she learned to love, she had to spy on. With her old friend Gill, and also some new ones she goes on playing both sides. But being careful to not mention Gill and the new friends she likes. Running around with these new people is a change and also something that opens her mind. Along with the many different adventures Lyla confesses to Gill what she had been doing and to say the least all of them were pissed. She then comes back and proves herself worthy again but will they forgive her? Did Gill's love fade to far? How did she manage to get marked the other two times? All these questions and more will be answered after reading this heart wrenching, adventure packed book!
