Robert Neville is the last human survivor in what is left of New York City. A pandemic has left only 1% of the population alive and most of those who survived are no longer human. The infected, now lurking in the shadows, watch Neville's every move. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by the only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood.

From Library Staff

Author Richard Matheson said, “I don't know why Hollywood is fascinated by my book when they never care to film it as I wrote it.” Matheson was also disappointed in the 1964 adaptation "The Last Man on Earth."

Before "The Walking Dead" premiered on AMC on Halloween 2010, Will Smith was a lone survivor in a world populated by zombies. Domestic gross: $256.3 million.

Probably one of Will Smith's best movies. I question how plausible the scenario is, and I would've liked a little more elaboration on the state of the world and how that all transpired.

Not bad. Will Smith vs. zombies!

This is the third lensing of Richard Matheson's novel "I am Legend." It's good, but it's not great. Nor is it a faithful adaptation. Charlton Heston's "The Omega Man" is closer and better. Still worth a look. Fine performance by Will Smith.

This thriller and drama movie stars famous actors such as Will Smith, Alice Braga, Charlie Tahan, Willow Smith, and more. The movie is about a brilliant scientist who has survived a plague that transforms people into mutants. He is working on a cure while trying to avoid the mutants, and searching for other survivors to save. The movie definitely has many ups and downs as Will’s performance as the scientist is pretty well done, but everything else is kind of mundane. I would rate this movie 3/5 stars and recommend it to those who like disease riddled thriller films.

A very thrilling movie about a life after an apocalypse. Robert Neville (Will Smith) is possibly the last man left on Earth after a virus spread and infected the population. Neville is constantly looking for signs of other humans still alive. Infected people have become vampire-like creatures, and there are lots of them. Neville must somehow find a cure for the disease before he is also turned into one of the infected. He only has his dog with him initially, but he ends up meeting a couple of other survivors later on. The movie has a fairly depressing premise, and some sad scenes that combine to make a great movie.

This is a 2007 American post-apocalyptic drama directed by Francis Lawrence, based on Richard Matheson's 1954 novel of the same name.
It is the third film adaptation after 1964's "The Last Man on Earth" and 1971's "The Omega Man."
Will Smith plays the US Army virologist Robert Neville.
In New York City, a virus has wiped out most of mankind, leaving Neville as supposedly the last human and others as nocturnal mutants.
Neville is immune to the virus, which was originally created to cure cancer.
He works to create a remedy while defending himself against the hostile mutants.
Although the visual effects are superb, the story moves tiringly in a snail's pace within the first hour.

This is a great movie. And i will never watch it ever again. This movie is brilliantly shot and acted, and so bleak and hopeless, with both endings, that I cannot re-watch it. It hit me like a hammer and left me stunned. A good movie, but not an enjoyable experience. Make of that what you will.

This is the third version of Richard Matheson's novel "I am Legend." It was filmed in the 60s as "The Last Man on Earth" with Vincent Price and in the 70s as "The Omega Man," with Charlton Heston. "Omega Man" is still my favorite version.

Saw this movie years ago and it still stands up well. A well done apocalyptic movie.

As I read the comments of my fellow humans here, I see the sad fact that what is said 4 times in the Harry Potter story: "Muggles don't notice nothing" is true. The crowd takes the stories literally and don't see the symbolic meanings they carry. One celebrity said: "If you want to know future, watch the Hollywood fiction movies." Because the movie moguls participate in conferences about future plans for this planet and they put that future before us in "fiction" form. This movie here shows symbolically how ugly humans genetically infected by the individual selfishness virus are. It also promotes vegetarianism by showing us at the start of this movie how ugly the killing of other living creatures is. The present cities will be depopulated and finally abandoned, and the new Civilization will be in dome cities with a much smaller and improved human population. Otherwise, an ice age is coming maybe rather soon, and many of the present cities will be razed off the ground by the 2-3 km thick ice slab that will descend Southward. The crowd doesn't think, it's hopeless to try to make them see the bigger picture, which is put before their eyes and yet they don't see it. The Holy Books also carry symbolic meanings in the form of folk-tale-like stories, such as the Tower of Babel story, which in fact symbolically describe a former attempt in the Middle East to create a united world, where the leaders wanted to become like gods. In the Bethlehem story the 3 Wise Men or Magi who are led by the Morning Star, are in fact 3 stars in the Orion, which come into alignment on Dec.25 and show toward the Morning Star. The animals in the story are in fact the Zodiac.

Neville: [talking to Anna about Bob Marley] He had this idea. It was kind of a virologist idea. He believed that you could cure racism and hate... literally cure it, by injecting music and love into people's lives. When he was scheduled to perform at a peace rally, a gunman came to his house and shot him down. Two days later he walked out on that stage and sang. When they asked him why - He said, "The people, who were trying to make this world worse... are not taking a day off. How can I? Light up the darkness."
