A rare and fascinating portrait of the American presidency from the #1 "New York Times "bestselling author of "Mrs. Kennedy and Me "and "Five Days in November."

-The torture of watching himself in the Zapruder film in a Secret Service training
-Johnson s virtual imprisonment in the White House during violent anti-Vietnam protests

Extraordinary. From Kennedy's assassination and LBJ's swearing in to the Apollo 11 launch and Nixon's farewell, a fascinating account from a man who was eye witness to more historic 20th century American moments than probably any other human being. Highly recommend.

Very well written and easy to read. So many little stories about five Presidents who shaped post WWII America and policy. Worth the time to read.

Nice everyman memoir on an overworked underappreciated government worker assigned to protect the President 24/7 with United States or overseas that affected his family life & his health.
It also highlighted the evolution & expansion of the secret service, historical events big or small & the quirks of the presidents, their wives & the vice presidents.
Big huh on President Johnson apologizing to Secret service on verbally abusing them on their work & going to wherever without advance warning.
Gave a more human picture of vice president Spiro Agnew before he was charged & jailed.

Revealing insight into five wildly different Presidents' character. Some of it is predictable: Kennedy was warm, Nixon ice-cold, LBJ cantankerous and unpredictable. But who knew Ike had a serious addiction? Playing 18 holes of golf 12 straight days. Or that Spiro Agnew was actually fun, charming and inclusive? Good stuff here.

I really enjoyed this book. Lots of behind the scenes information about the presidents and Secret Service procedures. Mr. Hill's anguish over the Kennedy assassination was vividly described.
