"When the space station Heimdall is invaded, Hannah and Nik must work together to defeat the enemy"-- Provided by publisher.
On board the Jump Station Heimdall, Hanna is the captain's pampered daughter; Nik a member of a notorious crime family. While they are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy's most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion. When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station's wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two. The fate of the Hypatia-- and possibly the known universe-- is in their hands.

I was sure this one couldn't be as good as the first. I was wrong! The unique format and plot make this compulsively readable. I can't say enough good things about the audiobook. Definitely one of the best I listened to this year! My recommendation for the first still stands: listen first and the... Read More »

This action packed sequel is as full of suspense and storytelling artistry as the first book and it was just as enjoyable. The graphic elements of the book are beautiful and smart, making for a thoroughly enjoyable read. I couldn't help but get caught up in rooting for the main characters and there are plenty of the twists and surprises to satisfy too. I really loved it - brain draining aliens, space stations nowhere, wormholes, multiverse theory, awesome bad guys and some seriously tough good guys too. Looking forward to wrapping up this series soon.

Gemina is the exciting sequel to Illuminae that delivers hard punches to your emotions and a feast for your eyes with the unique illustrations and formatting. The writing was hilarious and they have the same suspense building situations but I actually think Gemina is better than Illuminae which is crazy because usually the sequel isn't as good as the first so that just goes to show how fantastic of a writing duo Jay and Amie are.

MY FEELINGS ARE ALL JUST EXPLOSIONS. This is my all-time favorite series, and I'm reminded of just why after I complete my binge while I wait for the final installment. Please read them even if you don't like science fiction all that much- they're so different and such beautifully made books that you just might like it.

I am not the directed audience of this book, having safely navigated my teen years when transistor radios were the new technology, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

The second book in the series, as everyone says, is a fast paced adventure with teen-aged protagonists. The 600+ pages may give you pause, but the multi faceted format make it read more like a 300 page YA novel. Very similar in style to the first book in the series, it still manages to tell a compelling story.

I read the first two books about a year apart, so I was not jaded by the multi format, but I can see how others might find fault with that seeming redundancy. But the story stands on its own, and I am confident that the third book will coalesce the plot lines to give us a very satisfying trilogy. I'm already on the wait list.

A fast-paced thriller, a rollercoaster of emotions, Gemina did not disappoint as the sequel to the amazing Illuminae. HIGHLY recommended!!

I'm going to repeat what I wrote about the first book in the series: "Absolutely compelling action and suspense in a wonderfully unusual package. I never wanted to set it down, and now that I'm done I want to keep reliving it." Everything I wrote after that opening (except the plot details) apply as well.

For the first three-fourths of this substantial volume I was ready to knock my rating down a star for too closely following the formula of Illuminae and feeling repetitive, but the authors had plenty of surprises waiting in the final quarter to keep things unexpected and fresh.

And, again, I was looking for excuses to do things that would allow me to keep the audiobook playing. It's a top-notch production.

The bestseller status is well-deserved.

Fast paced and action packed: it's Die Hard meets Star Trek! I can't wait to hear how this all wraps up in the third planned installment. If kick-butt wise-cracking heroines are your thing, definitely check this series out.

I was sure this one couldn't be as good as the first. I was wrong! The unique format and plot make this compulsively readable. I can't say enough good things about the audiobook. Definitely one of the best I listened to this year! My recommendation for the first still stands: listen first and then flip through the book.

I loved the first book in this series, and couldn't wait to read the second. Just like the first book, this novel is told through documents and journals. I love the format, but I love the story even more. This second book was a little harder to get into, as you were starting with two completely new characters and had to learn their background stories. I had wanted the sequel to stay with the original characters from the first book. Fortunately, familiar faces do make appearances though and you do get an idea of what is going on on the Hypatia. Eventually, you begin to tune into the stories of space station Heimdall, and like the first there is a ton of action. Beitech bit off more than it could chew! Nik and Hannah were both likeable characters, and you can't help but enjoy the witty banter between them. Both are smart survivors. At first Hannah was a bit of a pampered princess. She was a bit irritating, but eventually as survival mode kicks in you begin to like her more. With Nik, you know there is more to the story and eventually you get to know the secrets he hides.

Quite possibly better than the first one. It's been a while since I found a book that I want to curl up on the couch or in bed with and not leave until I finished it and my eyes were strained; I'm happy to say this book did just that. Can't wait for the third and final book!
