"Deep in the stars, a young officer and her lover are plunged into a murder mystery and a deadly conspiracy in this first entry in a stellar military science-fiction series in the tradition of Lois McMaster Bujold. When her crew mate, Danny, is murdered on the colony of Volhynia, Central Corps chief engineer, Commander Elena Shaw, is shocked to learn the main suspect is her lover, Treiko Zajec. She knows Trey is innocent-- he was with her when Danny was killed. So who is the real killer and why are the cops framing an innocent man? Retracing Danny's last hours, they discover that his death may be tied to a mystery from the past: the explosion of a Central Corps starship at a wormhole near Volhynia. For twenty-five years, the Central Gov has been lying about the tragedy, even willing to go to war with the outlaw PSI to protect their secrets. With the authorities closing in, Elena and Trey head to the wormhole, certain they'll find answers on the other side. But the truth that awaits them is far more terrifying than they ever imagined, a conspiracy deep within Central Gov that threatens all of human civilization throughout the inhabited reaches of the galaxy-- and beyond"-- Provided by publisher.

Truly disgusting. Didn't want to finish reading it.

I finished reading the last page, closed the book and thought "Now THAT was a really good sci-fi story!" I enjoyed the romance, mystery and the ending, which did not leave me hanging (Yea!) . I want to read more books by this author.

A thrilling and surprising military scifi debut from a new author. Character-driven and grand in scope, with a rewarding mix of suspense, action, and even romance.

It's a romance! No, it's a mystery! Wait, now it's a space opera! This book ends up being all of those things, and by the end I was smiling and couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out what happens. There's already a sequel due out, but this book has a satisfying conclusion and stands on its own.

During shore leave on the colony planet of Volhynia, Commander Elena Shaw, chief engineer of the Central Corps ship Galileo, hooks up with retired starship captain Treiko "Trey" Zajec. But their no-strings-attached fling gets knotty when Trey is accused of murdering one of Elena's fellow crew members. Unable to believe that he could be a cold-blooded killer, Elena investigates the crime and quickly gets caught up in a vast intergalactic conspiracy. Blending mystery, political intrigue, action, and romance, this opening installment of the Central Corps novels may appeal to fans of Ann Aguirre's Sirantha Jax novels.
