This book takes a lot of heat in the comments section (on Goodreads) for the lead character's less-than-ethical behaviour. I don't, however, think that we're supposed to approve of her getting most of her society addicted to the "glitter" drug.

From what I can tell, this is the story of a scared somewhat self-centered teenager - and, frankly, that's more interesting than if she were a perfect heroine. Very little works out the way she intends, and it is pointed out (to her face) what a horrible thing it is that she's doing. It's actually quite realistic that she can convince herself that she has no choice.

I also appreciated several of the secondary characters.

I will be reading the sequel.

Aprilynne does it again! This author is not only a really cool local chick, but she has a way of just captivating and taking me away to a world I get lost in. Meet Danica, a member of the court of Versailles, not in the true 18th century but a reenactment as real as the murder she witnessed. When Danica finds her herself trapped in a nightmare she must decide what is her life worth? Read this book if you love a fast-paced novel focused on a good girl gone bad, and of course a little bit of romance thrown in for fun. I promise you will not be disappointed!

THIS BOOK. Loved it. It starts kind of slow, but I was so happy that I knew more about the extraordinary world before I got into the real meat of the plot. Recommended for those who don't mind ALL morally gray characters. The protag is pretty unlikeable. (compare to: The Young Elites by Marie Lu. Not as villain-y as her protag, Alina, but in the same vein)
