I found these stories all had unexpected twists that added a layer of intrigue and ramped up the appeal. A nice diversion during the busyness of the holidays.
Four short stories with Christmas holiday settings—a perfect bedside book for a house guest.
P.d.james is a very good writer, as usual. I enjoyed the stories, though I guessed the ending in 3 of them. Ive read the criticism in earlier comments, but so what if some of the stories are more like ellery queen magazine material? This would be a good book for a snowy winter night in front of the fire and some good, Hot tea.
So disappointing. First, I was able to complete this book in one evening's reading. Second, the stories were not particularly good - it's apparent that these stories were from the early career of the author. The first novella was a true story and was marginally interesting but not nearly as well told & plotted as her later stories - obviously she could not manipulate this true story but still, this and the other fictional accounts were not very sophisticated or interesting. I doubt if this is one I'll read again, unlike the other P. D. James mysteries. Give this a miss.
