Orphaned by a tragic accident, Chris Parsons is abruptly placed in the Sierra Mesa industrial School for Boys. A bright young man of 16, Chris soon finds himself in reform school with other victims of circumstance as well as hardened juvenile delinquents. Despite a promising educational background and a desire to go to college Chris’ future seems bleak as he becomes embroiled in the brutality and corruption of the under funded institution. Only idealistic supervisor David Royce (John Ritter) and a caring teacher (Betty Thomas) see the potential in Chris and come up with a daring solution to prevent him from becoming another statistic. Prison for Children is a hauntingly powerful drama exposing the all too real horrors of a disturbingly inadequate system for homeless young wards of the state.
