Phoenix picks up after Ash survived Black City (no spoilers). Known to the people of the United Sentry States as the Phoenix, he leads the rebel group into action. But the leader of the USS, Purian Rose, holds something over Ash that could make him turn against his people to save the girl he loves.

Natalie's birthday is just around the corner, as well as the nation vote to decide whether or not to bring the walls down between the Darkling race and the humans. But allies have turned against the rebels, and when the worst happens, Natalie has to find her sister, who has been kidnapped as a tool to stop Natalie and Ash's fight against Purian Rose.

Enter Elijah, a sexy Bastet who Natalie rescued in Black City, who may have his own motives for helping Natalie get her sister back...
Love. Hate. Betrayal. Hope. Grief. Sickness.

Phoenix is the first follow-up novel in a series that left me just as breathless as the first.

KC Rating: 4/5

GAH the cover, the love, the angstyness, the characters that you hate and the ones that you love... this series snuck out of the woodwork and blew me away. This a series worth getting into! I can't review anymore without giving away all the secrets to this finely woven tale of the paranormal world mixed with romance and war.

I enjoyed the first book a lot. I was misguided into thinking that Natalie was actually a strong heroine beyond the stereotypical female, however, several chapters in, Natalie becomes the "no, we have to save them!" girl. In addition, there is also the ridiculously predictable sub-storyline in which something bad happens to Natalie, she doesn't want to tell Ash because she thinks it'll break his heart, and lots of suffering and misinformed heartbreak ensues anyway because of her emotional state. Unfortunately, I had to finish the story because the plot intrigued me, and honestly the story could have been quite a bit stronger if there hadn't been so much emotional turmoil and lovesick distress.
