As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes.

What an amazing story based on true events about how much black female mathematicians contributed into the NASA space research in 1961. A very powerful and inspiring movie!

A truly inspiring and motivational service to all Americans to learn their hidden history. What other true stories can they bring to our attention? Well done!

A truly wonderful, inspiring story about a group of African-American women that are unsung heroes. The storytelling did get a bit sugary at times, but the story is so important that those moments can be forgiven. A must see.

Just how exactly do you get a man into space when the math you need hasn't been invented yet?

This movie is fantastic! I cried quite a bit because it was so moving, and I ended the movie feeling so inspired and hopeful. We have come a long, long way. We have to keep pushing. And I found myself looking at my own challenges, and thinking about what these women overcame, and feeling like I can scale all the walls before me. If you haven't watched this one yet, do it.

Incredible! Amazing! Beautiful! Wow spectacular history, this type of history should be taught in schools more often! So important that girls should learn more about these wonderful women early in age to be inspired! Absolutely inspiring!!!! Wish this history was taught in our youth. But I'm glad my 12 year old daughter & son saw this! To learn something from the past so much later I would call this Hidden History!!! But I Loved this! ❤

Reading all the previous comments, not much to add except that this film is exhilarating and still relevant today when apartheid still kinda exist in America. Imagine a brilliant female mathematician who had to run to another building to pee in a Coloured Only Loo because NASA building where she worked had no facilities for her kind... One of those rare films when the leads are non-white-women and Kevin Costner & Kirsten Dunst played supporting roles.

True American hero's with an amazing story! The cast is wonderful for their understated roles. I was taken with the movie from start to finish. The space program is no longer a mystery to me. "Hidden Figures" shows the contribution of 3 African American women that refused to quit at reaching their goals in life. No matter what the obstacle, with dignity and grace they moved ahead. I admire them and the team of African American women they brought into the space program at such a critical time in its development. If I had the power I would give everyone concerned with this movie an Oscar! "Hidden Figures" is simply the best picture I have seen in a fleeting 2017!

Absolutely stunning. My eyes were glued to this movie from the very start. It was such a beautiful movie filled with beautiful moments and breathtaking moments and brilliant actors. Amazing.

This movie is really great! It was wonderful to hear the stories of women involved with the early space program.

I got two things out of this movie, 1. Black women had a lot to do with space travel and 2. People were/and are prejudice without really knowing why. It's just the way things were/are until someone does something about it. People are taught racism, but most people just follow the masses without being about to explain why things are the way they are.

Loved the movie. At times I wished Taraji P. Henson would play her movie character as "Cookie" from Empire especially when facing off against the head engineer, Jim Parsons. Nevertheless, all three of the main actresses were great.

"Here at NASA we all pee the same color", a priceless quote!

Many excellent quotes in IMDb and of course from its book at goodreads .... this classic gem appeared in the film but not in the book:

Despite what you may think, I have nothing against y'all.
- I know, I know you probably believe that.
