Pies don't just have to be sweet! Also, look for a film adaptation coming out soon.

No release date yet. Movie titled "Guernsey." Michiel Huisman, Lily James, and Glen Powell will costar in the adaptation.

I loved the settting, the characters are charming, the history is fascinating...One of my all time favorites. Also wonderful on audio.

4 Stars - I recommend if you enjoy historical fiction, quirky characters, especially anything taking place during WWII.

This book follows Juliet, a journalist who is searching for a topic for her next book. When she receives a letter from stranger living on the island of Guernsey, they begin an unlikely friendship. As Juliet learns more about Guernsey, and its occupation by the Germans during WWII, she forms attachments to the people living there, and their stories.

I had heard such great things about this book from nearly everyone. I am so glad that I finally got a chance to read it. It is written in letters, which didn't bother me, but did detract just a little from the detail. It was still very vivid though. I loved the stories the characters told, and I really appreciated that this book, while sad, was very hopeful. It had a resilient tone. It was romantic enough, but not too romantic. I'm very excited to see the movie version whenever it is set to release this year. :)

This was the September book for my Online book club (Bitter is the New Book Club) and I was bored. Nothing happens in this book and the outcome is so predictable.

A lovely book, in a perfectly done epistolary style. Now ripe for the reading again as the new Netflix film has just been released!

Brilliant writing with wonderfully dry humour. It takes a couple of chapters to get into the book but well worth doing so.

Really enjoyed this novel, well written, entertaining and contained details of the German occupation of Guernsey during the Second World War. Reminded me of 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Haffe.

Thoroughly enjoyable! I, too, put off reading it for some time, but am very glad I finally did!

Despite the underlying current of Nazi occupation and concentration camps, this little book is upbeat, clever and funny. It has the nostalgic feel of a 1940's movie (think Gary Cooper & Rosalind Russell in "His Girl Friday") complete with rapid fire dialogue and witticisms with heart. I literally found myself laughing out loud. A thoroughly enjoyable read!

“I wonder how the book got to Guernsey? Perhaps there is some secret sort of homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers.”
