"One night. No one will know. That was the deal. Every year, Livvy Kane and Nicholas Chandler would share one perfect night of illicit pleasure. The forbidden hours let them forget the tragedy that haunted their pasts--and the last names that made them enemies. Until the night she didn't show up. Now Nicholas has an empire to run. He doesn't have time for distractions and Livvy's sudden reappearance in town is a major distraction. She's the one woman he shouldn't want...so why can't he forget how right she feels in his bed? Livvy didn't come home for Nicholas, but fate seems determined to remind her of his presence--and their past. Although the passion between them might have once run hot and deep, not even love can overcome the scandal that divided their families. Being together might be against all the rules...but being apart is impossible"--Page [4] of cover.

The first in a romance series that has it all: feminism, diversity, heart, and some really steamy love scenes! The two main characters are former high school sweethearts who broke up after a tragedy drove their respective families into a feud. Livvy's a free-spirited tattoo artist who struggles with depression, Nicholas is an uptight businessman who chafes against his father's wishes. When Livvy comes back to town after a long absence, sparks begin to fly, and you can guess where that leads. --Rachel (for more of Rachel's suggestions, follow WoodneathRachel)

4 Stars - I highly recommend if you enjoy contemporary romance and the "second chance" trope. Lots of dirty talk, you've been warned.

Nicholas and Livvy were dating in high school but a tragic accident between their families tore them apart. Since then they haven't spoken, or so everyone in their families thinks... they've been meeting up once a year for a single night. Last year Livvy never showed up, now that she is back in town Nicholas has to decide if he can stay away from her, and loyal to the family.

I didn't know much about this book going into it, but I definitely ended up liking it. I thought that the dichotomy between their lives executive in a business empire vs. a part-time tattoo artist really set the tone for the story. I generally liked all of the tattoo related bits and pieces of the book as well. I thought that the relationship between the two was complicated and angsty without feeling angsty. I loved that they were together in high school and had a secret agreement to meet up once a year, and then ended up in the same place later on. It was sort of like a "second chance" story, and sort of not. I liked that this book had diverse characters, and made consent really really clear. I thought that despite the angst, life differences, and family drama that they were actually decent communicators, which is good. I don't deal well with everyone acting like idiots. FYI this book is very steamy, and contains a lot of dirty talk. Just an FYI, don't pick it up if that isn't your jam. Overall loved this and am excited for the rest of this series.

Great start to a new series. A book that not only hits all the right buttons, but leaves me wanting more of this world. I'm sure that's the author's every intention, since there are at least two more books in this series with enticing characters introduced in Hate to Want You. From the moment I started this book, I was in love with the author's writing style. I was even more impressed with the story development as I continued reading. The H/h were both wonderfully unique, not just ethnically, but in their personalities and characters strengths. I enjoyed reading about their shared history, re-connections over the years, and their fight for a future. Overall, this was a richly developed story by an author whose continued work I look forward to.

How do you like your angst? If it's wrapped up in dysfunction and Big Misunderstandings, but the lovers can eventually figure out how to be grown-ups, this is the book for you. Nicholas and Livvy were childhood friends and lovers who were torn apart after a tragedy that still doesn't have answers. Now, they only meet once a year: on her birthday, when she sends him a location for a sexy encounter, only to go silent until the next year. Only now, Livvy has moved back, and drama between two families is live again. All the drama. All the feelings. All the emotions. This book has all of those. And more.
