This couple didn't plan their walk, but it was definitely necessary.

I had listened to the audio book before watching the movie and I was quite disappointed in the movie. A lot was left out or changed in the movie. I listened to the audio-book (narrated by George Newbern) while driving back and forth from work. I enjoyed listening to the book so much that some... Read More »

I read the book right before I watched the movie... book was SO great and the movie was disappointing in comparison. (to be fair, the movie could have stood alone as a good film had I not just read the book)

An inspirational story of survival. AL_IRINAF

My partner and I liked this film. Neither of us had read the book, and although there were some problems with this film, we liked the bonding of the two main characters. The biggest problem we had with this film, was that neither of the people, nor the dog, had lost any weight, nor dealt with problems of harsh weather over their 3 week ordeal.
Kate Winslet is as good as normally.
The extra's have interviews with the stars and crew and talk about how cold it was in the Rockie's. It was also explained that the cabin and tree root were made in Vancouver, B.C. and then transported up to the filming location of 8 to 10, 000 feet altitude.

Completely disappointed with this movie. I read the book first and loved it!! The movie changed much of the major facts of the book. You love the Ben in the book as he is kind and compassionate and capable and takes initiative. The Ben in the movie is weak and needy and needs taking care of. The Ashley in the book is funny and needs Ben to survive. But the Alex in the movie is very strong and not really likable and moves around great for someone who has a fractured leg!! No chemistry or character development in the movie. Missed out on the recorder aspect being a huge theme of the book but not in the movie. Just so disappointed I can barely finish the movie!!

I've tried to watch it twice now but still haven't put it in the player. And based on some of the comments, I may have been doing myself a favour.

...one of the worst films I've ever seen. Won't be able to ever watch any movie with Elba or Winslet again -- complete trash

Started out good.

They lost me when they flipped it from an adventure to a romance. Then it just dragged on.

Zero chemistry between these two talented actors meant the rest of the story wobbled. Beautiful scenery and some scary moments as they (and the dog) must decide whether to wait for rescue, or set out on foot.

Book was much better. Not sure why Hollywood has to change things - often for the worst!

This action/thriller film stars Kate Winslet as Alex and Idris Elba as Dr. Bass, as they must work together to survive after crashing in a plane on the side of an icy cold mountain. The pair must travel miles upon miles while forcing each other to keep going and to persevere against the odds. The movie did a fairly good job at keeping things entertaining for the audience even though it was largely centered around only two main characters out in the wilderness. With that said, it did become slightly slow-paced and boring at times. I would rate this movie 3.5/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who enjoys thriller films and the human urge to survive. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

Surprised that this quote from the book was left out the movie:
“... the mountain between us is one I cannot climb .”
===
We can go three weeks without food, three days without water, and three hours without shelter.
===
I owe you an apology. I did find that beacon. I saw it. It was smashed to pieces.
-No, you didn't know that when you came looking for me, did you?
===
If we stay here we're safe. If we leave, search and rescue, they're less likely to find us.
-Look, I don't want to die up here because you're too scared to take a risk. We have to do something.
===
Ben... do you actually know what it means to be reckless? It means to abandon safety.
- I know exactly what it means, Alex. And sometimes... But right now... Right now, we don't have a choice, okay? Nobody knows where we are. You know, all we have is me and you.
===
And the heart is just a muscle. Right?
-What idiot said that?
