Opinion

From Library Staff

Thor finds himself trapped on a strange world without his hammer and is forced to battle the Hulk. It takes place about 4 years after "Dark World" and two years after "Age of Ultron," around the same time as "Civil War" and "Spider-Man."

SPOILER ALERT.
Does Thor ever lose a lot in this movie!
First he loses his pesky cape which was after all identical to Superman's cape
anyway so good riddance.
Then OMG he loses his hair! Just a haircut he doesn't go bald don't worry; but you won't want to miss seeing who his barber is played by.
Then he loses his HAMMER! Yes it's gone destroyed. Then he not only loses his father Odin(it was his time) he later loses his idealized image of him when he finds out that his father was once a tyrannical evil ruler and marauding conqueror.
Then he loses his right eye OUCH! and he even loses his home Asgard as well! Also distroyed!
Wow does Thor take a lot of loses in this film. Unfortunately he doesn't lose Loki though.

Hilarious! Tons of action, adventure, and silliness... another great Thor movie!

Another moronic addition to the moronic Thor series.
Is it drama or comedy? An unsuccessful, clashing mix of majestic Asgard besieged by a malevolent super villainess vs silly rock gladiators and a silly, wisecracking Lord, I mean God of Thunder.
Like a grand, epic play interrupted regularly by acid reflux and diaper commercials.
Talk about oil and water.

This is the best "Thor" movie by far! Don't get me wrong, I liked the first "Thor" and thought "Thor: The Dark World" was okay (not great, just okay), but "Thor: Ragnarok" absolutely blows them out of the water! It has a lot more humor than the two previous movies and is much more colorful as well. Besides the favorite characters of Thor and Loki, the movie introduces us to Hela (the Goddess of Death), Valkyrie, Korg, the Grandmaster, and brings back a fellow Avenger in The Hulk!

Not my favourite Marvel film but it is one of the best Thor movies! Thor Ragnarok was okay when I watched it . I think Thor 2012 was better

My new favourite superhero movie. Directed by Taika Waititi, this has his stamp all over it, while still jumping through all the usual superhero hoops. Cate Blanchett is fantastic, and Chris Hemsworth does a great job too. But the real star is the kiwi sense of humour.

This is a hoot. It's good to see a superhero movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, remembering that the "comic" in "comic book" means "funny".

The majority opinion is apparently that the Thor franchise needed to be fixed, and that this fixed it. I'm not totally sold on either point but I will allow that this movie was entertaining to watch. For me, it was somewhat jarring to get such trippy, zany wackiness from the Marvel setting that was the most grand and fanciful. Even so, the one thing I really wish they had done differently was give Thor a chance to react to the deaths of most of his friends. Maybe a lot of the audience didn't care about those characters, but THOR certainly cared, and watching his friends die and never getting ANY reaction at all from Thor felt very unsatisfying. Nothing drawn-out of excessively emotional, just... something. All that said though, the villain was effectively terrifying, the action was very cool, and the events of Infinity War make this film important in retrospect.

Lots in IMDb already ... Thor and his hammer:

Our sister destroyed your hammer like a piece of glass.
===
I really wish I had my hammer.
===
You rode a hammer?
-No, I didn't ride the hammer.
The hammer rode you on your back?
===
Sounds like you had a pretty special and intimate relationship with this hammer and that losing it was almost comparable to losing a loved one.
===
But so much has happened since I last saw you. I lost my hammer.
===
She's too strong. Without my hammer, I can't.
-Are you Thor, the God of Hammers? That hammer was to help you control your power, to focus it. It was never your source of strength.

"Well, I tried to start a revolution, but didn't print enough pamphlets so hardly anyone turned up. Except for my mum and her boyfriend, who I hate. As punishment, I was forced to be in here and become a gladiator. Bit of a promotional disaster that one, but I'm actually organizing another revolution. I don't know if you'd be interested in something like that? Do you reckon you'd be interested?" - Korg

Hulk: Hulk always... always angry.

Thor: I know. We're the same, you and I. Just a couple of hot-headed fools.

Hulk: Yeah, same. Hulk like fire, Thor like water.

Thor: Well, we're kind of both like fire.

Hulk: But Hulk like real fire. Like... raging fire. Thor like smouldering fire.
