I've been itching to get my hands on this for awhile, I'm so glad it's here! It's the perfect mix of cuteness with mystery and horror/thriller (probably more thriller). Speaking of which, the horror/thriller panels have great placement. I genuinely freaked out a few rare times, mainly because the panel was so unexpected (dare I say jumpscare?). The shift in tone is jarring, in a cool way. You go from a lighthearted, fluffy narrative to DARKNESS, and it never really goes back to the fluffiness after that. I thought that was a cool experience.
I had to deduct a star though. A minor complaint is the art, it's inconsistent, sometimes the characters look very scribbly or awkwardly-angled, and other times they're adorable and sweet looking. But my main complaint is pacing. The first half of the manga kept me on my toes and super interested, but then it gets a kinda uneventful. Much of the second half is listening to the kids trying to decode their situation and plan an escape. If you enjoy reading about strategy-planning, you won't have a problem with this and will enjoy the book. For me personally though, reading about planning is kinda boring. Overall I still recommend this manga, it's currently one of the hottest ones from Viz!
