Since our country has become so polarized, I feel the need to recognize my own biases and learn how to engage in conversations that allow me to see other points of view, and validate the person holding that view, without feeling like I have to relinquish my own stance. This engaging, illuminating worthwhile book is helping me do that. Headlee cites scientific data to underscore her points, and uses her own encounters, rather than other people's, to illustrate where conversations have gone wrong, or gotten back on track.
This book is sorely needed. I highly recommend it for the strategies and for the science that backs up Headlee's analysis of the basis of the world-wide decline of conversational skills and the disturbing consequences.
