Such a terribly boring and passive writing style. It was worse than a harlequin romance. So many unnecessary sexual references and descriptions that added nothing to the style or advancing the plot. I could not even finish it. Don't waste your time.

Although A Reliable Wife will always be my favorite Goolrick book, this book is filled with rich prose and so beautifully written, so Southern........pick it up!

Current social commentary disguised as an historical novel is how I saw this book. Historically inaccurate actually, the millennials are the ones pulling down confederate flags not some sex starved suddenly enlightened woman between WW1 and WW2. Also, I do realize that gay people and black people are all equal members of the human race and can be loved. This book got me annoyed. I read to be entertained not preached at
