I really enjoyed getting to know "young" Salvo. He isn't as cantankerous as we've come to know (and love!), but he still comes up with unique solutions to problems.

If you've followed the adventures of Inspector Montalbano, as I have, these stories provide valuable insight into how his skills developed over time. About half way through I realized I was missing the door slams and name problems that Catarella brings to the table. However, he finally made an appearance in one of the middle stories! Thank goodness the whole gang appears in these shorts. The last story was my favorite; or maybe it was my favorite because I read it last. :)
