Enjoyed the first series, this was just icky.
Watched maybe 15 minutes of it just because I am a fan of Campion and Moss, but it was a painful 15 minutes.
Oh well.

An incredible performance of Elizabeth Moss who had to embody a complex and extremely sensitive protagonist. This thriller is taking place in Sydney, Australia, however it possesses all the features of a Scandinavian Nordic Noir crime fiction.
A damaged, hurting, anti-hero detective, an oppressive and haunting atmosphere , social and economic issues ( immigration , prostitution, illegal surrogacy …) .
For connoisseurs only.

A TV series created by the Cannes Palme d'Or award winning New Zealand feminist film director Jane Campion starring Holly Hunter, Peter Mullan, and Elizabeth Moss. A few nice people and some innocent teens have to put up with a lot of crude males.

I haven't seen the original series of this. Over dramatic. EVERY characters has flaws. I felt overwhelmed by this. At the end I was not satisfied with how I was left as the audience. The original series was an experiment by the director, so as a further experiment I hope it worked for the director - it didn't work for me. TOO much drama - made the characters unsympathetic for me. Interesting plot twists. Good acting done with weird material to work with. If you like lots of drama - or find most entertainment not dramatic enough - then this could be what you are looking for.

Ridiculously stupid, and filled with brain-dead characters it is impossible to care about.

Slow and full of unlikeable characters. Watched only the first and last episodes and still could follow the story, which means there was a lot of padding. Liked Holly Hunter, but she was only an accent character. This is a review for season 1. Cannot recommend investing time on this.

I have admired Jane Campion as a director for 25 years ( The Piano with Holly Hunter ), but this series is a mess. First of all we are beaten over the head with misogyny - men only see women as sex objects - man on woman violence - women are only brood mares... Then in turn virtually every woman in the show only see themselves of value if they are mothers. No one seems very interested in finding the murderer - is this not the point of a murder mystery?? What message is being sent here?? Horrible, terrible, boring and inconsistent. Don't bother. Kristi & Abby Tabby

Jane Campion is one of the best director / writers. She delivers a story that skillfully showcases our male centered culture especially the police. Strong depictions of the sex slave trade, middle class fussiness, charismatic villain, broken police personnel and system, and more! Really, it's all there. Elizabeth Moss continues her run as Robin the flawed but persistent and brilliant detective.

A waste of time. Very predictable. No character development. Its only saving grace is the beautiful scenery.

Actually thought this was just a movie, not a 6 part mini series. Thought after part 2 I would quit, but something kept me going. Even though the script could be slow it never totally left me feeling like I was wasting my time. In the end I was glad I had stuck with it.

Other: Strong - yet quite warped - theme of feminism is present throughout. Women attempt to assert themselves but attack each other and behave like doormats.

Sexual Content: Strong themes of incest, pedophilia, and rape. Two of which are not resolved in the plot. None are graphic or show nudity but all are disturbing nonetheless. There is nudity with some of it full frontal but blurred or done respectfully.

Violence: Warning about a scene involving a dog being senselessly shot. A tad graphic and unnecessary to the plot.

Al: No, no one's ever really friends with Matt. Still, I'm close enough to regret it.

CJ (Holly Hunter): The pain will never be too much, but when it is, the body goes unconscious. But you guys have drugs, yeah?
Jude: Yes, morphine.
CJ: That's not good. Find some heroin. In nature there is no death. Just a reshuffling of atoms.

CJ: The body has tremendous intelligence. Follow the body.
It will know what to do.
Tui: I don't want to be naked.
-- Hey, I've had a couple of kids. Had one at home. It was that quick and easy, I nearly missed it. God, lucky my sister was there...
