Happily married one day and widowed the next, Cathy Walker feels her way through her first year as a suddenly single woman. Some days it would be easier to rebuild her life without well-intentioned advice and often hilarious help from her son, her brother, and their girlfriends. Thank heaven for Cathy's lifelong friend Michael, who keeps a loving eye on her.

I was not sure how I felt about this show, but the longer and longer I watched, the funnier and sad it became. I requested Season 2 and looking forward to every one of these quirky characters. You gotta be “open for it”.

The central character Cathy "mum" is compelling. She's surrounded by funny sometimes clueless people but she takes it all in stride. Fun easy to watch series.

I gave this 5 stars because it portrays middle class values and humor in a "take it or leave it" manner, no pretense. The characters are as maddening as they are endearing, with a good deal of grace for not being perfect. The writing is spot-on and filled with genuine, understated humor. I look forward to additional seasons of this. Whoever selected the actors should have a special award along with the writers. Highly recommended.

Great fun, an original show with a cast of memorable characters. Some pure silliness, and some really heartfelt moments too. Wished there was more to the season.

So many characters giggling like a bunch of thirteen year olds. Just silly.

Charming and funny, and even has some wisdom. The characters that listen more than they speak are lovely. Some characters are shown in unflattering way, but the program also shows how they developed their behaviours, without excusing it.

Who would have thought there was a series that makes Rosanne's family look like intelligent, normal, sane people?

Enjoyed seeing a female lead in a comedy which did not portray her as a fool or overbearing. A gentle drama poking at some British class stereotypes.

Mum contains a specific type of comedy, the type that makes one or two characters look really bad due their lack of sense or knowledge. I'm not real fond of this type of comedy, so this show didn't really do it for me. When the show tries to tell a story and shows real emotion, it does work, but the "comedy by shame" premise sort of spoils the rest. It did for me anyway
