An accessible two-for-one release that includes a single-disc Frank Sinatra compilation and a DVD of [Sinatra in Concert]. Casual Sinatra listeners will be satisfied with much on this album, comprised of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ Reprise Records output. The classic Sinatra recordings represented here include: “The Best Is Yet to Come,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Summer Wind,” “Strangers in the Night,” “It Was a Very Good Year,” “My Way,” and “Theme from New York, New York.” Sadly missing are earlier non-Reprise hits, such as “Young at Heart” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin.” And, as this is a Reprise Records release, many Sinatra fans just won’t be satisfied with “Come Fly with Me,” represented here with the later and less jaunty version from 1965’s [A Man and His Music] rather than the iconic recording from 1958’s [Come Fly with Me], also available from the Markham Public Library. While the video and sound quality of [Sinatra in Concert], recorded in 1970 during a concert at London’s Royal Festival Hall, was representative of its time, Sinatra was a consummate showman and singer. His performance, that included songs not represented on the [Nothing but the Best] disc, elevated him high above the technical limitations of the time… for all time.
