“Double Crossed”, the 2013 novel written by Lin Oliver is the second book in the Almost Identical series and it is matchless when put next to the first novel. This time, twins Charlie and Sammie find themselves in trouble when their friend from El Salvador is believed to have committed a crime. They are now faced with the decision to turn their backs or tell the truth, and either way, there will be consequences. A saddening but beautifully displayed storyline with a heart-wrenching yet uplifting truth to it; Lin Oliver did it once again. @WordfulReviews of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library I absolutely loved the 2013 heartwarming and meaningful novel “Double Crossed #3” by Lin Oliver. Not only did the plot itself open up opportunities for her to touch on countless present-day social standards and stereotypes, but it gave Lin Oliver a chance to discreetly place a reality check for young readers, one of which older readers might’ve not received. For instance, the storyline introduced another set of identical twins, one of which who has a birth defect, clubfoot. Everyone was quick to judge and disregard that twin, and welcome, accept, and focus on the other. This includes going as far as to blame a minor crime on that twin rather than the true perpetrators, the “popular” kids who were the first to quickly conclude that he was not worthy of being their friend. However, Sammie and Charlie, who know the real truth, are faced with the decision of either doing the right thing or protecting those at fault for the twin’s false charge. Lin Oliver correctly tackled this common scenario through the perspectives of the characters involved to portray all sides of the story, making it easier to convey the proper way to handle stress under such circumstances. Overall, I truly enjoyed reading this book and I would definitely recommend it to any reader seeking a worthwhile read.
