This is Salman Rushdie at his best. He takes you yonder, some magical reality, away from the surface of this earth, yet remains understandable, with the down to earth clarity, uncharacteristic (to me), of his other novels like Haroun and and the sea of stories, Satanic verses and Mid-Night's Children. I find it hard to select reading materials, after reading any Salman Rushdie. In this i learn that, "Every love is good, even defeated love..."
