THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ by L. Frank Baum I read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and I noticed many interesting elements in this classic. A book becomes a classic by "standing the tests of time." Not many books are a classic. This was published in 1900 but it still reads well although it is more than a hundred years old. Baum wanted this to be an American fairy tale. What is interesting about the book is that the main character: Dorothy and her new friends don't want to kill a bad thing and become heroes and heroines. (Even though they eventually triumph over the bad thing.) They just want something to make their life better. This book is a metaphor for a journey through life. It means everybody is seeking something in life. I enjoyed the book and was hooked right away from the cyclone in chapter one. I would recommend this to all fantasy lovers.
