This series features a lying billionaire, this one is fictional unlike the one who currently resides in the White House and is a great view of America today. Damian Lewis plays stock whiz Bobby 'the axe' Axelrod while Paul Giamatti is U.S. attorney Chuck Rhoades. They are both 'alpha males', Rhoades is out to get Axelrod for fraud and insider trading. Axelrod schemes, manipulates, lies etc. in his bid to outmanoeuvre him and get even more money to add to his billions. We are introduced to many supporting players including their strong wives. Axelrod's wife is a tough as he is and Rhoades therapist wife actually works for Axelrod. The dynamics of these relationships are explored including Rhoades and his wife's penchant for S & M. Axelrod is portrayed as a family man despite temptations. Their 'game' of cat and mouse goes on for 12 episodes with Axelrod trying to elude an ever persistent Rhoades. They have a showdown in the last episode that is a lead in to the second season. I have to wonder if the 'game' will get a bit tiresome in Season Two? Anyway Lewis and Giamatti give performances that are almost over the top but work for the characters they are playing. Trailer added.
