Stories of the Game

Actually, I found it to be a quite boring read. I loved to watch Gretzky play, and Gordie Howe was my childhood idol too. But, this book reads like " all hockey players are great guys and it all went swimmingly". There were a few interesting anecdotes about how the Soviet players showed good sportsmanship after the Canada-Russia series. In fact, the Soviets came off sounding a lot better than some of the Canadians. Like Bobby Clarke's famous slash of Kharlamov (which the Canadian coach told him to do apparently). Maybe its not possible to bring to life what it means to play hockey professionally, but I thought for example that "The Game of our Lives" by Peter Gzowski had a lot more insight. Sadly, the library doesn't have this book which is sad because this was probably Peter Gzowski's best book. Another very famous Canadian.
