St. Aubyn's reworking of King Lear is clever and witty, and unlike some of his brilliant earlier novels (e.g. the Patrick Melrose series, which deserved every accolade they received), this has a lighter tone. "Dunbar" seems like a madcap farce. But, there is much more going on here. If you have ever looked at the super rich (i.e., the 1%) and wondered what drives them, and thought "when is enough?" & "what is wealth, anyhow?", this novel circles around those questions. A short and very entertaining novel about power and greed, and family and forgiveness.
