This film is sort of throwback to the 1980s when the IRA was a cookie-cutter villain. The plot here is built around a faction of the IRA resuming its terror bombing of London. The character played by Jackie Chan is a restaurant owner whose daughter is collateral damage. He happens to have been a U.S. Special Forces trained soldier of the R.V.N. He goes on a killing spree. Pierce Brosnan plays a feckless IRA leader who is trying to have it both ways. The whole IRA thing seems purely formal, an obligatory mechanism to enable a revenge picture.
