The Radical Element
The Radical Element 12 Stories of Daredevils, Debutantes, and Other Dauntless Girls Book - 2018

I picked this up because I loved "A Tyranny of Petticoats," and this is a great follow-up! I especially enjoyed the stories with a touch of magical realism (a family glamour which grants Mexican-American women safety in white places, jars full of moonlight which grant immortality to a continually displaced African-American family). There was something in each and every heroine that called out to me, no matter how different in place, time, or experience she was from me. Whether she was bold or shy, religious or secular, a musician or a magician, defiant out of hope or out of fear; the radical element in her called to the same fierce spark in me.
