I wish I had liked this movie better. I really liked some elements of it, but others I found problematic. I loved the wild road trip in the ancient RV. I loved how Helen Mirren's and Donald Sutherland's characters embraced life and chose to go off on an adventure when facing poor heath instead of staying inside and moping. I found Helen Mirren's character very unlikeable at times, however and her treatment of other characters was sometimes very unpleasant, not funny. I also found it extremely disturbing that Donald Sutherland's character was driving that RV when he was very ill and shouldn't have been driving at all. It is not cool to put other people's lives in danger! I also found the depiction of Donald Sutherland's Alzheimer's very inconsistent as his abilities seem to vary so wildly from one moment to the next. I also did not love the very controversial ending! So while I certainly appreciated the subject matter of this film, and it had lots of really good individual scenes, overall it was a wildly uneven and somewhat confusing blend of a comedy road trip and an exploration of illness and death that didn't always blend together very well.
