This is ultimately about what it means to be a friend and the kind of personal sacrifices people are called to make in service to those friendships. Also, this book is BEAUTIFUL. The illustrations are relatively simple and the colors are extremely vivid. Pay attention to the sharp contrast between the blues and greens of the flower shop and the monochrome grey-black of the forest, it really adds to the reading experience! Show less

Wertz chronicles her experiences trying to find treatment, learning she has systemic Lupus, and trying to cope with the impacts of a chronic illness as a young person (in her early 20s). Ultimately she discovers comics as a release, as a distraction, and as something that is still accessible through discomfort and brain fog. This is not a sanitized view of chronic illness, and it is very funny. Julia Wertz has a very dry sense of humor and very little patience for other people's nonsense. Show less

Lev also turns his lens inward and looks at the things in himself that are not as kind or thoughtful as they could be and don't make sense. The impact is relatable and normalizing. Lev doesn't ask you to put on a cheery face or ignore problems, and at the same time gives you permission to be grumpy and confused and to feel like you don't have everything figured out.
