Community Field Trip: Museo de las Américas and Tonantzin Casa de Café
Remember how exciting field trips used to be? We’re bringing that spirit back! Join us for a new series of community field trips exploring the places where community and culture meet, alongside fellow curious neighbors.
On this trip to Denver’s Arts District on Santa Fe, you’ll enjoy a guided tour of Museo de las Américas and coffee and treats at Tonantzin Casa de Café. Transportation is provided. We’ll depart and return together from Koelbel Library.
What to Expect
- A mix of guided activities and relaxed time to connect with others
- Opportunities to ask questions and learn more
- Light walking and standing throughout the day
- A supportive, inclusive environment: the bus and buildings are wheelchair accessible, and all presenters will have microphones.

Why We’re Going
This day is designed for Arapahoe Libraries patrons who are curious about the rich cultural landscape right here in Denver. Museo de las Américas is the premier Latin American Art Museum in the Rocky Mountain region and celebrates the artistic and cultural achievements of these communities for over three decades, from ancient to folk to contemporary art.
Tonantzin Casa de Café's mission is to celebrate the indigenous culture of the Southwest and Latin America through coffee and atole drinks in an environment that is as safe and welcoming as home.
What You’ll Gain
By the end of the day, participants will:
- See cultural art and history firsthand
- Learn about indigenous culture of the Southwest through food and drink
- Connect with fellow patrons who care about civic life and community
Schedule
- 12-12:15 p.m.: Check in at Koelbel Library
- 12:15 p.m.: Prompt departure to downtown Denver
- 1-3 p.m.: Tour Museo de las Américas and enjoy refreshments at Tonantzin Casa de Café in turns
- 4 p.m.: Arrive back at Koelbel Library
