There is some disagreement among fans and critics, but here's one take on how best to experience the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

- The film that launched the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) also offers the first glimpse of Nick Fury and his Avengers project.
- Edward Norton is replaced by Mark Ruffalo when Hulk joins the Avengers, but first he puts in a solid performance in this film that reclaimed the Hulk movies from Universal Pictures. Keep an eye out for a cameo from Tony Stark.
- We see Hulk-smashing footage and a peak of Thor's hammer in this Iron Man sequel that takes place around the same time as "The Incredible Hulk" and "Thor." Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow character is also introduced.
- You can't assemble the Avengers without Thor! Jeremy Renner is introduced as Hawkeye and a post-credit scene sets up the first Avengers movie.
- Now that all the characters have been introduced, it's time for them to come together as the Avengers (just in time to save New York from meddlesome Loki). We also get our first glimpse of Thanos.
- Set about 6 months after "The Avengers," Tony Stark is still feeling the effects of the epic New York battle.
- This film takes place about a year after "The Avengers" and includes a cameo by Captain America, as well as a first glimpse at the Collector who will feature in "Guardians of the Galaxy."
- This sequel is set about 2 years after "The Avengers" with Captain America teaming up with Falcon and Black Widow to fight his best friend Bucky.
- This film starts out with Peter as a boy in 1988, but then moves forward to take place in 2014. It you look closely you'll see relics in the Collector's museum from other Marvel movies.
- Groot is still a baby in this sequel, setting the action only a few months after the original, so it's best to watch these back-to-back.
- The original Avengers are back to fight a new enemy, Ultron, and the film also introduces Vision and the Maximoff twins. Thanos makes another post-credit appearance along with "Black Panther" villain Ulysses Klaue.
- Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, is seen trying to break into the Avengers headquarters introduced in "Age of Ultron," but he's intercepted by Falcon.
- This film is set a year after "Age of Ultron" and pits the Avengers against each other as Iron Man and Captain America go head to head. It also introduces Black Panther and Spider-Man, who will be featured in standalone films later.
- T'Challa takes on the role of king and protector of Wakanda as the Black Panther about a week after the events of "Civil War."
- The first Spider-Man film connected to the MCU, it takes places a few months after "Civil War" with Tony Stark acting as a mentor to Peter Parker.
- Like "Ant-man and the Wasp" this film was released after "Infinity War," but the action takes place well before it, in the 1990s. Chronologically, this would place it before the first Iron Man film, but it's best to watch this film closer to the end…
- The introduction of arrogant and brilliant Doctor Strange, who will go on to join the Avengers. The post-credit scene sets up "Thor: Ragnarok."
- Thor finds himself trapped on a strange world without his hammer and is forced to battle the Hulk. This film ends with a scene that leads directly into "Infinity War" which is why it's best watched immediately before the 4th Avengers movie.
- The Infinity Stones that have been seen in many previous MCU films all come together in this film that adds Dr. Strange, The Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther to the Avengers. The post-credits scene shows a distress call going out to Captain…
