"--Back cover.
When the Tate Modern discovers that the bone used in one of the most famous sculptures by the celebrated and now deceased artist Vanessa Chapman is human and not, as previously believed, an animal, all eyes turn to her and the mysterious disappearance of her husband, Julian. Fearing the potential devaluation of the artist's work, Douglas Lennox, director of the Fairburn Foundation, sends curator James Becker to the remote Scottish island where Vanessa lived to investigate the macabre discovery. But what seemed like an easy undertaking soon turns into something much darker, much more dangerous, and much more unpredictable, potentially endangering his own life. Set on a Scottish island accessible only during low tide, The Blue Hour explores the tension between the freedom of creative genius and societal pressure, pointing out with terrifying precision how the light in which we see the people we love sometimes masks their greatest darkness. A masterful novel with echoes of Patricia Highsmith and Alfred Hitchcock by one of the most important crime novelists of recent decades.
