Nothing useful in here. (And if you drink that much wine in a year for the corkboard, garbage is not your main problem!) This is about 2/3 text about the history of paper, plastic, and metal. The projects are nearly all kitschy and "decorative," not practical or functional. In every single case, you have to go out to buy more eco-unfriendly items to complete them. And own a glue gun! I don't know where to start with that particular item, but you should really be a little more worried about nuclear power plants creating the electricity to make your glue gun function than you do that poor scrap of paper that could have gone into the blue bin before you coated it with melted glue. Not to mention that glue is a plastic! So you began with X garbage that you needed to throw into the recycling bin. Do these projects, and you'll end up with X+Y garbage you may or may not be able to throw there, and will certainly want to throw there soon. Even the few practical ideas were of limited applicability. An office desk set of well-washed food or pop cans covered with paper isn't a bad idea, but a family of four won't need an office desk set every week, and a typical family makes creates at least that much trash. An Altoids survival kit isn't a terrible idea to tuck in your car and backpack, but again, if you buy Altoids once a month...you're simply not going to be in dire survival situations that often! I was hoping for a truly practical guide. This is just a silly craft book that made me roll my eyes. The recycling bin makes far more sense.

conversion therapy is awful but this book is almost as awful. A privileged kid lies to and mistreats his beard girlfriend, chooses to go to a day-only conversion therapy, and chooses to stop after a week, and everyone lets him. I can't imagine a worse spokesman for the cause.

If you want historical accuracy, this is not the one to watch! However, it's a diverting period piece and if you suspend your disbelief, you should be mildly entertained. Not the BBC's best and not its worst.

When I grew bored with this, I went to read Goodreads reviews and someone there said that what this was was an investigative journalism piece stretched into a book, and bloated with unnecessary stuff to make it book-length, when it should have been the length of the original article it was. I thought "uhuh, that makes sense now." So what that guy said. ;-) I did come away with a better understanding of why the grid fails more these days than ever before, and why it is likely to fail more often in the future, and why people in Tucson can no longer sell solar electricity back into the grid (I had assumed it was just rich/greedy power executives being rich and greedy, but while it may be partly that, it's more complicated. Not saying they aren't rich and greedy and probably evil and nasty too, just saying that it'd also kill the grid to keep adding home solar arrays to it, and none of us living through 109 degree days as I type this wants that!) I appreciate that knowledge. In a sense this book is a call to entirely re-imagine and redesign the grid. California has enough electric cars it is able to dump some of the excess into batteries with the cooperation of their owners. More will be done, piecemeal, no doubt. In 50 years The Grid will probably be an entirely different animal. And probably controlled remotely, so we can't put demands on it that it can't handle, meaning you won't set your A/C temperature, a switching authority likely will. I can't wait to hear the screaming about that!

SPOILER ALERT A quirky, funny tale about a seven year old kid who accidentally blows his twin brother's brains out in the barn and the ruined family that results. What, you don't think that's a good topic for quirky/funny? No, it's not. Horrible, horrible movie that's an orgy of self-indulgence by some director who thinks he's an artiste or something. Mannered and unfunny with cheap special effects.

Sometimes amusing in its badness. First, there is the self aggrandizing nonsense in the intro and first chapter. Did you know GM was scared spitless of this guy? Yeah, neither did GM. And then is narrow-focus fear-mongering. Apparently for a week in the month he wrote this, Costco had a minor glitch in its JIT supply mechanism and was briefly short of rice and limited people to a case per customer or something. He saw this as the first lurch in the inevitable slippery slope down to a dire state of ricelessness. Panic, people! Thereafter, the book improves a bit in that it has a few interesting points in it. I was not aware of the EIA and certain laws, so that was somewhat useful. The whole focus, though, is on gasoline for passenger vehicles which is less than half of what we use petroleum for. So fixes that are only fixes to that one sector don't begin to address a possible shortfall or end of oil. What will farmers spray on their fields to keep the bugs off? how will machinery be lubricated (assuming it can run on something else than fossil fuels)? What will we make tired of? How will concrete be mixed? He doesn't say because he seems not to know about these applications of petroleum. It was, however, short.
