I loved that this book gave me a new epic space opera to love, while also delivering strong girls, intrigue, and bits of Moroccan culture. P.S. Track down the interview with the author about the book. She offers fascinating insights into her inspirations for the story.I loved that this book gave me a new epic space opera to love, while also delivering strong girls, intrigue, and bits of Moroccan culture. Sentient alien spaceships and stories about friendship! Nadim is one of the best characters I've read in a long while and I loved the friendship that he, Zara, and Bea build.

Because I needed my heart broken a little bit more. Wein does a fantastic job of highlighting the truly wonderful relationship between Rose and her sister.

What's more terrifying than a Star Destroyer full of stormtroopers? One full of zombie stormtroopers. You thought their aim was bad when they were alive... Lots of action, horror, and good (not so clean) fun!

Not everyone stolen away to a magical land wants to be returned home. Some souls are cursed to forever search for the door that will lead them back. I loved this novella so much! McGuire has crafted a fascinating world, peopled with a diverse cast. This book had one of the clearest explanations of asexuality that I've ever read. I almost gave up on this series because I found the first two books so disappointing but I'm glad I stuck with it. Beauty and the Beast has always been a favorite and Braswell finally delivered on her dark, fractured Disney premise. Playing up the asylum was genius and, without any spoilers, I loved how she ended the story!I almost gave up on this series because I found the first two books so disappointing but I'm glad I stuck with it. Probably one of my favorite dark fantasies so far this year! It has the feel of a fairy-tale like Hansel and Gretel (but darker, if possible) and is based on an obscure old nursery rhyme. "The Beast is an Animal, Hear it knock upon your door, It sucks your soul, then licks the bowl, And sniffs around for more..." Alys is a compelling heroine that you truly empathize with as the story progresses. I'll definitely be watching for more from this debut author!Probably one of my favorite dark fantasies so far this year! Cutthroat Kitchen in space! Sign me up! The art was bright and fun! Peony is a lovable chef that takes her abduction and entry into the galaxy's favorite cooking show in stride. But someone is sabotaging other contestants. Can Peony survive another week? This is a great story that doesn't take itself too seriously. I'll definitely be on the lookout for the next volume.Cutthroat Kitchen in space! Sign me up! The art was bright and fun! It's rare that I read a second book in a series but I enjoyed Shadow Queen enough to give this one a try. With lots of action and a lovely heroine determined to save her brother and her kingdom, Redwine has crafted a highly enjoyable retelling of Rumplstiltskin. Definitely worth the read! This can be read as part of the series but works perfectly well on its own. It's rare that I read a second book in a series but I enjoyed Shadow Queen enough to give this one a try. Roach is a master of making science writing approachable to the layman. While Grunt wasn't my favorite of her books, it was a fascinating look into the research and experiments behind the American military machine. My only regret is that listening to the audiobook, I missed out on all of her great footnotes and had to go back and read them out of context later.Roach is a master of making science writing approachable to the layman. I really wanted to like this book. It's a fascinating group of women from history and I genuinely like the author. However, it was a little forgettable and felt forced in places. I'll stick to Lasky's animal stories.

This is a fabulous book about the civil rights movement that will stay with you long after you're done! Rose is one of the best characters I've read, maybe, ever. While it's written for young people, I think adults will find it engaging and eye-opening as well. It felt especially timely as the civil rights discussion continues today. This is a fabulous book about the civil rights movement that will stay with you long after you're done! Non-stop action from beginning to end! It was like the TV show 'Lost' for middle schoolers. Definitely a great start to a new series from the ever-reliable Scott Westerfeld.
